Hi Reader,
The Zomato CEO bought a four and a half crore Aston Martin, and the internet decided to be annoyed. I want to thank him.
He just paved the way for the next few hundred Aston Martins in India. He took a number most people will not even say out loud, parked it in a driveway, and made it look possible.
That is not something to resent. That is something to aim at.
So if you want to be one of the next ones, here is the only thing that gets you there, and it is not the wanting.
Want the car. Name it. Ten million, a house, a lower cholesterol number, say it out loud.
Wanting it is the first move, not the sin. And I am no saint here. I would take the car too. So would you.
Here is where people go wrong. They tie themselves to the result and then sit and stare at it. But you cannot do an Aston Martin. A result is not something you do. It arrives at the end, as a by-product of what you did on a hundred ordinary mornings nobody clapped for.
Think of it as leaving Bangalore in that Aston Martin. The car can do 200. But if you have not decided whether you are going to Bombay, Delhi, or Kolkata, the speed is wasted. You burn fuel in circles and arrive nowhere. So pick the city. Then be honest about the speed. If you can hold 100 every day, do not promise yourself 200. A target you cannot keep is a fantasy with a deadline. Name the city, drive a speed you can actually keep, and the same engine that was going in circles finally takes you somewhere.
That is the whole thing. Name the result, then tie yourself to the daily work, not the car. The car is the wish. The work is the contract. The wish was his. The contract is the only part you can copy.
So pin his car on your wall if it helps. Then put your head down and go do today’s work.
Thank you, sir. The rest of us are taking notes.
Don’t set goals. TAME the effort.
